An early 20th century kiln (fire) brick from an old factory on the Puget Sound in Washington State. Made of refractory clay with a very interesting texture, and partially-coated with iron oxides. Slightly rounded from wave action. Fantastic wabi sabi presence! Can be used as a garden ornament, door-stop, or, especially, as a bookend, because of the compact form and density. Available in more-or-less matched pairs.
There are plenty of ruined buildings in the world, but no ruined stones.
Hugh MacDiarmid (1892-1978), from On a Raised Beach
