Was 30,000! EXQUISITE MASSIVE FRENCH Cast Iron Urn on Pedestal, Cast By J.J.....
This is an incredible piece of garden architecture with a rich history. It is a two piece work of art made by JJ Ducel Paris Foundry in France from the late 19th century.
I acquired this massive, amazing ensemble from a gentleman whose brother was a friend of the Yugoslavian consulate located in San Francisco. This is where the piece was located for many decades . The brother had helped then pack up the facility when it closed down in the 1990s. As a thank you, they gave him the urn for assisting them with the move. After it was removed from the consulate, it ended up in the backyard of a home in Union City California where it sat for 40 years. The consulate was closed down due to diplomatic sanctions against Serbia, due to conflicts in Bosnia and Hezegovina.
The main piece is a large french campana shaped  cast iron urn with foliage guilloche trim above satyr masks (possibly Posiedon ) flanked by trailing Ivy and floral garlands ,  further flanked by a pair of bacchante form handles, ( mermaid like female figures,)
The second piece which is the elaborate pedestal base is headed by a frieze of dancing putti with a pair of beautiful bacchic  (gods of wine) mask roundels, male and female, alternating with musical trophy pendants. The urn stands 40" tall, the pedestal, 70.5 " tall .
The two pieces go together and  stand over 9 feet tall. Condition is relatively good considering age. It does show wear but no notable damage and  it adds to the character.
Markings on both pieces indicate JJ Ducel Paris which produced high-quality sculptures, fountains and decorative pieces such as this for Gardens and public parks in the middle of the 19th century.
Romanticizing for a moment, I imagine the mammoth task of these pieces being brought to the states by steamer ship. Surely thousands of eyes have marveled at their beauty over the many decades.
Imagine this gorgeous piece of History showcased in an elaborate Garden; perhaps the grounds of a winery would be the perfect home.
I cannot just ship these pieces. They are very large and very heavy. I have moved them with help and the rental of a truck and proper dolly. You are welcome to arrange that.  UShip.com connects you with delivery services that are going your way so to speak. They would need to be warned of the weight and size of these massive pieces so as to have enough manpower.
If you are relatively local within a certain mile radius of California's Bay Area, I could possibly arrange to deliver for a fee.  We can discuss. Thank you for viewing and I would love to see this in the hands of someone who truly appreciates what this once in a lifetime art represents.
P.S. the main picture is not the actual item you are bidding on. This is only to show you what it looks like when they are put together. Mine is the same item but the one you would receive is in original condition and in separate pieces as the pictures indicate. The picture that shows two sets of my item repainted black and white sold at Christie's Auction for $68,000 in 2012.
